So, I\u2019m always looking for ideas to help my clients express their unique personal style.\u00a0 Here are three ideas for personalizing basic shirts. For this example, I used an old gray t-shirt and purple plaid flannel shirt to make flowers for a raspberry t-shirt.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Stack the fabric for the flowers in two or three layers.<\/li>\n<li>Make a simple 4-petal flower pattern out of paper so you can cut all the flowers into the same shape.<\/li>\n<li>Attach the pattern to the fabric stack and cut out about 7 stacks of flowers.<\/li>\n<li>Use a needle and thread to tack each stack of flowers together. Pull the thread tight so the petals gather and stand up a little.<\/li>\n<li>Make a little balloon of fabric and sew it into the middle of the flower to finish it off.<\/li>\n<li>Put on your t-shirt, arrange the flowers around the neckline of the t-shirt and pin in place. Encirle the neckline with flowers or make a cascade off the shoulder\u2026whatever you like.<\/li>\n<li>Sew the flowers in place and you\u2019re good to go!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b>Example 2 &#8211; <b>No Sew\u00a0<\/b>Fringe Tunic<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sarahshah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/PhotoGrid_1422455391383.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1997\" alt=\"tunic t-shirt collage\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sarahshah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/PhotoGrid_1422455391383-300x300.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.sarahshah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/PhotoGrid_1422455391383-300x300.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.sarahshah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/PhotoGrid_1422455391383-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.sarahshah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/PhotoGrid_1422455391383.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Add some interesting detail to a t-shirt by turning it into a long fringe tunic.<\/p>\n<p>This is a super easy idea I got watching designer Amanda Valentine on Project Runway make hand-cut fringe. Wear the fringe tunic over any plain t-shirt or a bathing suit.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Lay the t-shirt flat. (It\u2019s easiest to do this on an ironing board)<\/li>\n<li>Fold the hem of the shirt up the to bust line of the shirt.<\/li>\n<li>Now fold the shirt up again so there\u2019s a little stack of fabric all around the shirt. Pin the stack in place.<\/li>\n<li>Use scissors to cut through the stack of fabric. Make your cuts about \u00bc\u201d to \u00bd\u201d apart.<\/li>\n<li>Cut around the whole shirt.<\/li>\n<li>Unroll your fringe, and Voila &#8211; you have fringe that\u2019s about 18\u201d long around the whole shirt.<\/li>\n<li>Wear the fringe tunic over another t-shirt &#8211; plain, striped, long sleeve. Whatever you like. It also works over a bathing suit.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b>Example 3 &#8211; Thermal shirt with embellished sleeves<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sarahshah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/28678753_061_e.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1999\" alt=\"Free People thermal\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sarahshah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/28678753_061_e-224x300.jpg\" width=\"224\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.sarahshah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/28678753_061_e-224x300.jpg 224w, http:\/\/www.sarahshah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/28678753_061_e.jpg 712w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 224px) 100vw, 224px\" \/><\/a>I love FreePeople&#8217;s embellished thermal shirts, but they don&#8217;t come in my size.
